The coastal community of Point Loma is situated in Central San Diego County, California. A well-developed community, Point Loma is a peninsula flanked by the Pacific Ocean on the west and the sparkling San Diego Bay on the east. The 150-year old Point Loma Light House, is part of the monument, and has historic importance of having guided ships passing through the Bay for more than 40 years. Visitors are also drawn to the numerous tide pools at the base of the cliffs that offer rare glimpses of the rich marine life of the region. Another attraction is the Navy's submarine base located in Point Loma.
